Grip Hand Positioning and why Its Important

Today we are going to focus on the positioning of the grip hand (top hand ) elbow. In the photo below the red arrow shows how the player does not drop his elbow to his hip on the follow-through of his shot.

This allows for the stick to be on the ice longer during the shot, in turn allowing the stick to flex further and for longer generating more velocity. While practicing at home be sure to keep an eye on your grip hand elbow and make sure it’s off the hip and high at the end of the shot! It is one of the things we correct most during our shooting sessions.
