The Power Hand – at home hockey training tips

Today’s tip is going to focus on the positioning of the power hand (bottom hand). In the photo below Steven Stamkos (one of the best shooters in the world who just scored his 500th NHL goal) shows how the power hand pushes down and forward to create flex in the stick, which in turn generates power on the shot. 

The common mistake most players make is they push forward only and do not generate enough flex on the sick. 3 inches of flex or more is what the truly elite shooters achieve during a shot and what we teach our players to try and achieve.
